How to find out Fiber Optic Network Failure

1.First,Check that is the  fiber-optic transceiver or optical module Indicator and Twisted-pair ports Indicator lit.

1)Such as the transceiver optical interface (FX) indicator does not light,

   Make sure that the cross-linked fiber link?Patch cord one side is  parallel connection;

   The other end is cross connected.

2)If A transceiver optical interface (FX) indicator light,B transceiver interface (FX) indicator is not lit,So the failure is in the A transceiver.

   *One possibility: A transceiver (TX) optical transmitter have been bad, because the B transceiver optical port (RX) can not receiving optical signals;

   *Another possibility: A transceiver (TX) optical transmitter port fiber link (cable or patch cord  may be broken).
3)Twisted-pair (TP) indicator is not lit,
     Make sure that the twisted pair connection is wrong or not connected correctly?
    With a continuity tester to detect

(However, some twisted pair transceiver indicator have to wait for the fiber-optic link up after bright,See the IMC fiber optic transceivers Commissioning Manual)

4)Some  of the transceivers have two RJ45 ports: (To HUB) connected to the switch cable is a direct line; (To Node) connected to the switch cable is a crossover cable;

5)Some transceivers have MPR switch:  the connection switch cable is a straight-line; 

                                       DTE switch: connect the switch cable is a crossover cable.


2.Did the Fiber optic cable,Jumper broken?

1)Fiber cable pass-off detection: laser flashlight, the sun, the light  facing one side of the cable connector or coupling ; see if there is a visible light at the other end? If any visible light indicates that the fiber optic cable is not broken.

2)Patch cord off detection:Laser flashlight, sunlight Illuminated at one side of the patch cord,
And see another side visible light? If visible indicates that the optical fiber jumper is not broken.


3.Did half / full-duplex mode error?
The transceiver one side FDX switch: indicates full-duplex;

                                      HDX switch: the half-duplex.


4.Detection with optical power meter instrument

Fiber optic transceiver or optical module under normal circumstances luminous power: Multimode: between-10db~18db;
singlemode 20 km: between t-8db~ 15db among;
singlemode 60km:between 60 km:-5db - 12db  ;

 

If Luminous power of the fiber optic transceivers :between-30db ~ 45db, so the transceiver is Failure.
